Washington, D.C. is one of the greenest places to enjoy outdoor events, festivals, National Parks, local parks and fitness activities. As such, the city’s Ward 7, located east of the Potomac River, is one of many great gems to explore, enjoy and exercise in.
The Eastland Gardens Exercise Group is where YOU can do all of the above. Think group camp – not boot camp!
Research shows that group fitness, or working out with a core of cohorts, offers better results through partnership, competition and accountability. So join your neighbors, bring in two exercises to share, and be ready to try out exercises from others in attendance in various meetups throughout the Eastland Gardens community.
With support from the East River Family Strengthening Collaborative, EG2 will provide attendees with water, expert fitness professionals and incentives like gift cards and t-shirts during the summer.

I have been a Zumba instructor since 2011, and am a resident of Eastland Gardens. I’m excited to introduce the Eastland Gardens Exercise Group to the community and help inspire my neighbors to lead a healthy lifestyle – right in our own community. I’m formerly a professional modern dancer and am currently trying various ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle while balancing a busy work and family schedule by incorporating aqua fitness, spinning and soon, laughter yoga!
Shirley Cherry, new to teaching yoga is a Ward 7 resident, and avid runner and tennis player. She loves to share her love for health and wellness with others and is a fitness inspiration to her neighbors.
